噶千仁波切於密勒日巴灌頂的開示

一般來說,灌頂是藉著修行佛法來獲得內心的自在。自在是指自主、自由,擁有內心的自由。因為我們看事情是被外在條件所限制,我們被煩惱所控制,所以並不自在。
 
要得自在必須從因著手,從認識因果規律開始。例如:行善因(佈施、持戒)斷惡。惡因是我們的煩惱,由煩惱生嗔恨或嫉妒,由此我們造下惡業。如佛子行第11偈頌:諸苦源於欲自樂,諸佛利他心所生;由此自樂與他苦,如實交換佛子行。樂因是慈心悲心;而苦因就是我執。
 
行善斷惡,當下可獲得快樂、以後亦不會得到惡果。斷了煩惱即獲得了自在,此與灌頂意義相合。
 
開示於萬里噶千禪修園區,2015年5月23日,密勒日巴灌頂法會。

Garchen Rinpoche's teachings in Milarepa initiation
 
In general, initiation is to obtain the freedom of mind through practicing the Dharma. Freedom means independence, to own the freedom of mind. We are all bound by the external conditions when we look at things. We are controlled by defilement, so we don't have the freedom of mind.
 
To obtain freedom, we need to work on the cause, from knowing the laws of cause and effect. For example, to practice virtue (giving, discipline) and obtain from non-virtue. Non-virtue is the cause of defilements. From defilements, anger and jealousy arise, and we create bad karma from here. The 11th stanza of 37 Boddhisattva's Ways says: all sufferings come from seeking happiness for oneself, and all Buddhas come from a mind to benefit others. Therefore, exchange self-happiness and others suffering is the Boddhisattva's way. The cause of happiness is loving-kindness and compassion, and the cause of suffering is self-attachment.
 
If at the moment, we practice virtue and obstain from non-virtue, we can have happiness right away. and will not receive bad karma later. If there is no defilements, one obtain freedom, this is in line with the meaning of initiation.
